The Museums Association (MA) is inviting museum professionals to a special event in London next week to celebrate the launch of its new Code of Ethics.

The free roadshow will be held at the Wellcome Collection in Euston on 22 April. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear how and why the code was changed, and how it will impact their work in museums.

The code, which was passed unanimously at the MA’s annual general meeting last year, outlines three main principles: public engagement and public benefit; stewardship of collections; and individual and institutional integrity.

The launch event will feature a panel discussion on museum ethics, followed by a practical training session taking a closer look at a range of ethical scenarios.

“We’re really excited about being able to launch the new code at the Wellcome Collection,” said Alistair Brown, the MA’s Policy Officer.

“We have a really interesting line-up of speakers and a useful training session for those who want to learn more about using the new code in practice. It will be a great opportunity to think more deeply about the ethical principles that underpin and protect museums and those who work in them.”

The event runs from 1.30pm to 4.30pm and light refreshments will be provided. Please RSVP to Lorraine O’Leary at to register your attendance.
