A month to go until 6 March deadline
The deadline is approaching for the next round of grants from the Museums Association’s (MA) Esmée Fairbairn Collections Fund, which supports projects that demonstrate the significance, distinctiveness and power of collections.

The fund offers museums, galleries and partnerships across the UK sums of between £20,000 and £120,000 for projects lasting up to three years. The next round of funding closes on 6 March.

The criteria for the fund were recently refreshed to support applications that have a strong link between relevant collections and audiences, are able to use the project to contribute to the long-term plans of the applicant, and are ambitious, interesting and sometimes exploratory.

The MA’s collections development officer, Sarah Briggs, said: “We’ve already funded 101 projects that work to add value to existing collections and connect a collection to relevant audiences, and contribute the development of the museum itself.
“Projects we have funded in 2018 include the Horniman Museum, to develop new understandings of the Horniman’s musical instrument collection and south London’s digital and ephemeral music; and Bridport Museums Trust, to formulate, deliver and share a collections review and disposal programme in partnership with their local communities.
“We’re looking forward to funding even more projects that that unlock the potential of collections, link them to communities they can inspire and engage with, and contribute to the long term sustainability of museum collections.”
