Financial help to attend 2019 MA Conference

Discounts, grants and bursaries to help you get to Brighton 2019
If you’re on a tight budget, there’s plenty of help available to attend the Museums Association (MA) Conference and Exhibition in Brighton on 3-5 October this year.

For individual MA members from under-represented groups, we are offering 10 free places to attend Brighton 2019. Details on how to apply can be found here.

Staff from small museums (turnover < £300,000) that are MA institutional members can purchase tickets for the whole conference at a reduced rate of £130. We also offer a discount for people undertaking the Associateship of the MA (AMA), and MA members who are students, volunteers, retired or unwaged.

MA members are eligible to apply to the MA Benevolent Fund for grants to advance their education and training.

There’s lots of free content on offer at conference too. Our exhibition is open to all and will feature this year’s Festival of Change, plus free seminars on the latest thinking and case studies on technology, digital, audiences and learning, collections and interpretation, and careers.

Grants and bursaries are available from a number of other organisations to support people to attend conferences:

The Welsh Museums Federation offers training and conference grants on a rolling basis, funded by the Welsh government and the federation. The federation only considers applicants from Welsh Accredited museums who are members of the Welsh Museums Federation.

The Association of Independent Museums offers training grants of up to £300 to its members, with priority given to smaller museums of less than 50,000 visitors. Applications are considered on a monthly basis throughout the year.

Museum Development Yorkshire’s Small Development Grant Scheme 2018-22 can be used to support staff attendances at conferences. Up to £3,000 is available and applications are assessed on a monthly basis.

The South East Museum Development Programme offers Skills Builder grants of up to £500 to fund CPD activities that can be used for conferences. The grants are open to any individual working in an Accredited or provisionally Accredited museum in the south-east.

Have you considered joining the MA? Individual membership prices begin at just £4.50 a month and could save up to £160 off the price of your ticket.

We will continue to update this page as more financial support becomes available. Please continue to check back for details.
